Designed for the Riviera, tailored for Bond
The Riviera Polo Shirt is an icon of modern menswear born out of 160 years of fabric innovation and quintessential British style. The perfect balance of comfort and refined style, it’s crafted from a unique mesh fabric that’s made from the finest Supima cotton selected from a single Californian farm. Lightweight and breathable, its origins lie in the 1950s French Riviera. Peter Hill, the great-grandson of Sunspel’s founder, found the dense piqué polos of the time too hot and uncomfortable in the heat. Drawing on Sunspel’s lacemaking heritage, he developed an innovative, cool cotton mesh that was perfect for the climate of the Riviera.
Fifty years later, Oscar-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming approached Sunspel, tasked with dressing Daniel Craig in his first performance as James Bond. The Riviera Polo’s effortless British style and understated elegance made it the perfect piece to bring Bond into the 21st century. Hemming tailored the style to Daniel Craig’s exact measurements, slimming the chest and shortening the sleeves, and in the process, created a contemporary classic.
“If it’s good enough for Bond it’s good enough for us”
